About Cedar

Cedar Mercantile was born from a love of sewing, and the small joys that come from gift giving—but its roots run deep in my family’s history.
I chose the name “Cedar” as a tribute to the small business on Cedar Avenue that two generations of my family operated. My great-grandfather was a dedicated, passionate small business owner who passed the business he built down to his son, my grandpa. I spent most weekends and summer months of my childhood helping my grandpa run his business any chance I could. He inherited the business savvy from his father, plus prioritized connections with customers, hard work, and taking pride in his shop over anything else. My grandpa operated the family business for 50 years until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2016. I feel so lucky to have grown up watching a true master of the craft of small business ownership - his store was a place of purpose and connection, and that is the exact spirit I am carrying on in Cedar Mercantile!

The craft of sewing is also weaved throughout my family’s story. My great-grandmothers on both sides of my family were incredibly skilled with needle and thread—creating, mending, and creating heirlooms. There is something so incredibly special about the gifts they made each of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their craft and gift giving have inspired me to learn to sew myself, and today, every product I make carries a piece of that legacy.
Following in my great-grandmothers’ footsteps, each item I sew is thoughtfully designed and handmade. I believe in the beauty and quality of everyday things—the kind that make daily life a little brighter, a little cozier, and a lot more personal. Whether you give these items as gifts, or if you decide to keep a few pieces for yourself, my hope is each order brings you & yours joy that only a handmade gift can!
Thank you for visiting my shop and for supporting my small business!
